Early root of Reflexology is discovered in different places such as:
- Egypt: The painting taken from a physician’s tomb, Ankhmahor, depicts what is believed to be early foot and hand reflexology (2330 BC).
- China: The concept of reflexology has been traced as an ancient and traditional medicine which claims to exist around 5000 years ago.
- America: The Inca civilization may have used this form of therapy and passed on the practice of this treatment to Native American.
In the early 1900’s, Dr William Fitzgerald known as the father of Reflexology, discovered (or “rediscovered") vertical zone therapy which we use today. He was the first one to define the ten longitudinal zones of the body.
Zone therapy is a system based on the principle that the ten longitudinal zones are interconnected.
In addition, Eunice Ingham, physiotherapist in the 1930’s, further developed and refined the zone therapy and invented the word “Reflexology”.
